Explorations in Buenos Aires

Immerse yourself in the highly eclectic culture of Buenos Aires with this DreamTrip to the capital of Argentina.

About Your Trip

Get a true taste of the culture of Argentina with this DreamTrip in vibrant Buenos Aires. Enjoy a guided tour of some of the most popular sites in the city, including the Recoleta district, Palermo district — home to the city zoo, a planetarium and numerous gardens and parks — plus Plaza de Mayo, with landmarks like the Metropolitan Cathedral, May Pyramid, and numerous historic government buildings. Other stops include San Telmo, the oldest neighborhood in the city, filled with colonial buildings, cobblestone streets and antique shops, La Boca, a neighborhood marked by its colorful houses and strong European flair, and Café Tortoni, the oldest coffee shop in the country, where you’ll enjoy churros and a cup of hot chocolate. Revel in dinner and a tango show at Café de los Angelitos, where you will witness a lively performance of this popular regional dance that has earned a spot on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list. Take advantage of your downtime to visit great sites like the Basilica del Santisimo Sacramento church, a gorgeous example of the city’s eclectic influences (French neo-classicism in this case) and home to one of the finest pipe organs in the world, and the trendy Puerto Madero, where you can find restaurants, bars, shops and dazzling city lights that illuminate the port at night.

What we love:

• La Recoleta Cemetery was noted by CNN and the BBC as one of the world’s most beautiful cemeteries and features the gravesites of notables like Eva Perón and Nobel Prize winners.
• A destination in itself, 9 de Julio Avenue is the widest avenue in the world and is home to other landmarks like the Obelisk of Buenos Aires and Teatro Colón, a world-renowned opera house.
• The city’s largest urban park, Pereyra Iraola, was declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 2008.

This trip will close by August 29.

Destination

Sometimes referred to as the “Paris of South America,” Buenos Aires is a thriving metropolis with a multicultural heritage stemming from its open acceptance of immigrants since its founding. The city’s numerous foreign influences can easily be seen in its eclectic European-inspired architecture.

As a cultural epicenter of Latin America, the city is a leading patron of the arts and social enrichment, which is evident throughout the city. Buenos Aires boasts more bookstores per capita than any other city in the world, as well as the busiest live theater industry in Latin America. Numerous museums and art galleries dot the city, which is also an important center of contemporary street art, and Río de la Plata is known for being the birthplace of the exhilarating tango.

Social gatherings commonly involve sharing a meal, and the local cuisine is a blend of indigenous and Mediterranean influences, with fare like asado (Argentine barbecue) and the flavorful herb sauce chimichurri originating there.
